CACAO DYE DAY

Cacao Dye Day is an engaging and creative workshop centered on the art of natural dyeing using cacao. During this unique gathering, participants will have the opportunity to learn various dyeing techniques while delving into the rich history and cultural significance of cacao as a food and dye source. This hands-on experience not only fosters creativity but also encourages a deeper appreciation for sustainable practices in textile production.

Our teachers are from visiting Oregon from their hometown of Omihachiman, Japan where they operate a charming little chocolate business from the comfort of their own home, called Damontei. This unique natural dye project serves as a way for them to engage with the public and invite everyone into their creative process through an immersive, hands-on experience. Participants will learn the many uses of all parts of the cacao bean, including its often-overlooked husks. Each student will get to dye 2 items of fabrics that are provided. In addition, we will be providing a home-made lunch of Japanese Udon! Looking forward to having you there!
